My name is Moises.
I grew up at the dawn of the hyperactive epoch—the year was 1999—which saw a younger me perpetually transfixed by a number of tactile and technological merriments suited to my kaleidoscopic fancy over the years. From the Nintendo years to my earliest childhood fascinations with writing, photo, video, music, design, and even web content, I have always been a product of the digital revolution. Curiosity and the will to create have always been my guiding lights, from the literal blue glow of late night Wikipedia odysseys under the stealth of bedsheets to my most recent research projects. Enticed to learn more from the world and incorporate those lessons in everything I make, I’ve found my scholastic home in the field of architecture.
Originally, I anticipated studying to work in the field of graphic or interior design, but opted to study environmental design under the impression it might be a charitable synthesis of my creative leanings and secondary STEM interests. Upon beginning the 5-year Bachelor of Architecture program at California Polytechnic State University, I fell in love with the field; I remain convinced today that the architect is unique among professions in their philosophical entanglement, scope of creative agency, and civic duty. In the course of earning my degree I’ve connected my natural curiosities for science and philosophy alongside my graphic enthusiasm across studio coursework, while growing in my ecological concern through pursuing a minor in Sustainable Environments. In parallel, I’ve refined my abilities in writing, photography, and videography as both work and hobbies. Meanwhile, I’ve taken on interests in web design, sound engineering, journalism, philosophy, and activism.
My B.Arch thesis strategizes a speculative “psychoactive” revolution in architecture in order to spur positive social change, revitalize interconnectedness, and inspire redesign of humanity in the face of climatic adversity.
About this website:
This personal portfolio has been designed to contain the shifting tides of my personal and professional interests. The site was originally a way to challenge myself with a new skillset. Following my first year of college, I began assembling it from scratch, teaching myself intermediate HTML, CSS, and JavaScript along the way. It is an ever-evolving hypertext document, a patchwork of By the nature of its design, it will no doubt be subject to growing pains in the implementation of new features. All I ask is that visitors excuse these as modest missteps along my path to proficiency!
The logo which appears throughout the site is inspired by Mayan ideographs, as an homage to my family's indigenous Mexican heritage. Together the characters signify 'arrival at dewlling,' – a reflection of the way I found myself at home in the study of architecture as well as my design process, which at times leans heavily on subconscious spontaneity such that successful design solutions are arrived at versus created.
